Thommos in Sydney South is an exposed reef break that has quite consistent surf. The favoured time of year for waves is autumn. The best wind direction is from the west northwest. Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the northeast. A left hand reef break. Best around low tide. Even when there are waves, it's not likley to be crowded. Hazards include rocks and sharks.

FEATURE UPDATE: we now show red swell icons for 'open sea' swells that are travelling in an unfavourable direction for the surf break. In places, these swells may still wrap around coastlines and produce smaller waves at some breaks. They are also significant for windsurfers and other water users that tend to venture further off-shore.
