Tauranga Bay in West Coast South Island is an exposed beach and point break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the east southeast with some shelter here from south winds. Able to handle light onshore wind Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west southwest. Prevailing left breaking waves at the beach break and there is also a left hand point break. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. When it's working here, it can get crowded. Submerged rocks are a hazard.
