Tangoio in Hawkes Bay is an exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the northwest. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the best swell direction is from the southeast. The beach break provides left and right handers. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Rarely crowded here. Beware of rips, rocks and sharks.

FEATURE UPDATE: we now show red swell icons for 'open sea' swells that are travelling in an unfavourable direction for the surf break. In places, these swells may still wrap around coastlines and produce smaller waves at some breaks. They are also significant for windsurfers and other water users that tend to venture further off-shore.
