Raffs Beach Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

(Victoria – Torquay, Australia)

Today's Raffs Beach Sea Water Temperature is: 18.7 °C (66 °F)

Statistics for 15 Feb (1981–2005) – mean: 17.7 °C, range: 16.5 °C to 18.7 °C (mean 64 °F, range: 62 °F to 66 °F)

Sunny with very warm air temperatures, feeling like 25 °C / 77 °F once we account for air movement. In contrast the sea remains relatively cold (18 °C / 66 °F). Surfers should wear a spring or summer wetsuit though no doubt some would wear less neoprene on such a warm day, no matter what temperature the sea is.

Raffs Beach Water Temperature Graph

All of the graphs for the surf breaks presented on Surf-Forecast.com are on the same scale to enable comparison between locations around the world.

Raffs Beach water temperatures peak in the range 17 to 20°C (63 to 68°F) on around the 28th of February and are at their coldest on about the 14th of August, in the range 12 to 14°C (54 to 57°F). The maximum seasonal water temperatures at Raffs Beach in the fourth week of February lend themselves to a 4/3mm wetsuit or a 3/2mm suit and 3mm neoprene boots. The coldest water temperatures at Raffs Beach in mid August are ideally suited to a 4/3mm wetsuit + 3mm boots, although a 5/3mm wetsuit may be preferable for longer sessions and cold windy days.

Actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at Raffs Beach can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at Raffs Beach.
