    I dont know about the comment, "watch out for locals and sharks". I have never had any issues with "locals" nor sharks, though to be fair there are plenty of sharks around.

    This break only has anything on it when the swell is coming from the the east. However the reports for Omaha are also applicable for the neighboring Tawharanui break which is a bit more consistent with it being open to the more common northerly swell.

    I would like to point out that the Omaha bar doesn't exist any more .

    Pre 1980 the mouth of Estuary had permanent left bar that offered fast and challenging waves... then the boaties won over with construction of breakwater that altered the sand movements and destroyed a national treasure.
    Now the developers are trying to do the same to Whangamata on the Coromandel East Coast...
