Nunoshima Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

The water temperature (17 °C / 63 °F) at Nunoshima is relatively warm today but the windchill (4 °C / 39 °F) will make the air temperature seem much colder than the sea and it is forecast to be cloudy too so a chilly prospect. You'll need at least a hooded spring wetsuit to keep surf at Nunoshima today, maybe neoprene boots and gloves too.

Nunoshima water temperatures peak in the range 26 to 29°C (79 to 84°F) on around the 5th of August and are at their minimum on about the 29th of February, in the range 15 to 18°C (59 to 64°F). Year round warm water temperatures at Nunoshima climb to their highest at the beginning of August. Even then a rash vest and board shorts should be fine for surfing at any time of year. The minimum seasonal water temperatures at Nunoshima in late February lend themselves to a 4/3mm wetsuit or a 3/2mm suit and 3mm neoprene boots.

Actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at Nunoshima can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at Nunoshima.
