Malhano Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

(Portugal – South)

Today's Malhano Sea Water Temperature is: 15.4 °C (60 °F)

Statistics for 13 Feb (1981–2005) – mean: 15.6 °C, range: 14.5 °C to 16.9 °C (mean 60 °F, range: 58 °F to 62 °F)

Cool Malhano water temperature today (15 °C / 60 °F) and cold weather (windchill of 3 °C / 37 °F) but at least there should be some sunshine to help stay warm. We suggest wearing a good spring wetsuit, ideally with a neoprene hood, maybe neoprene boots and gloves too.

Malhano Water Temperature Graph

All of the graphs for the surf breaks presented on Surf-Forecast.com are on the same scale to enable comparison between locations around the world.

Malhano sea water temperatures peak in the range 20 to 23°C (68 to 73°F) on around the 15th of August and are at their minimum on about the 19th of February, in the range 15 to 17°C (59 to 63°F). Malhano sea water temperatures are highest in mid August. Surfers should use a 2mm long sleeve shorty or a 3/2mm spring wetsuit if the wind is up. The minimum seasonal sea water temperatures at Malhano in the third week of February lend themselves to a 4/3mm wetsuit or a 3/2mm suit and 3mm neoprene boots.

Actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at Malhano can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at Malhano.
