Hookipa (Ho'okipa) in Maui is an exposed reef break that has fairly consistent surf. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing at Ho'okipa. Offshore winds are from the south. Clean groundswells prevail and the best swell direction is from the north northeast. There are left and right breaking reefs. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It's sometimes crowded here. Watch out for urchins, rips, rocks, locals and sharks.
