Goolwa in Adelaide is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the north. The optimum well angle is from the south. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It very rarely gets crowded here. Watch out for and rips.

Visitor Reviews of Goolwa

Alistair Baird from AUSTRALIA writes:

Goolwa and the surrounding coast have a number of quality breaks.

Starting at Middleton Point (check out the great bakery at Middleton after a surf)look to the East towards Goolwa and you will find plenty of beach breaks to choose from.

Paddling into the lineup is very easy and the locals are friendly as long as you show respect.

The wave holds well to 3ft with plenty of waves for short boards and malibus. Anything over 6ft will see large amounts of white water and a tough paddle. When it gets to 6ft head over towards Victor Harbor and check out Chiton Rocks, The Dump and The Pines.

This stretch of coast can be very fickle over summer (Nov -March) however the pick is during winter with strong ground swells and offshore winds. Whales appear during winter and there are plenty of pubs and local markets to keep you occupied.

Only a 90km drive from Adelaide, the capital of South Australia you can do a day trip or stay for a while in the many caravan parks and hotels.
