The name used for this surf spot is very offensive. We have want people to use the alternative name of El Maritimo. I grew up in Gijon and we always called that spot El Maritimo, in reference to a residence, El Sanatorio Maritimo, close by that has serve people with Developmental Disabilities for decades. The name Mongol is a derogatory word in Spanish to refer to people with Down Syndrome.
People with Down Syndrome and their families really resent the use of this word. Please help us end this practice.
