Chefs Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

(Madagascar – Vezo Reefs)

Today's Chefs Sea Water Temperature is: 28.5 °C (83 °F)

Statistics for 14 Feb (1981–2005) – mean: 28.3 °C, range: 26.7 °C to 29.6 °C (mean 83 °F, range: 80 °F to 85 °F)

A hot and sunny day, feeling like 33 °C / 91 °F even after we account for wind, and very warm water temperature (28 °C / 83 °F) too at Chefs. Surfers may need a thin summer wetsuit or at least a rash vest to block the UV.

Chefs Water Temperature Graph

All of the graphs for the surf breaks presented on Surf-Forecast.com are on the same scale to enable comparison between locations around the world.

Chefs water temperatures peak in the range 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) on around the 29th of February and are at their lowest on about the 6th of August, in the range 22 to 24°C (72 to 75°F). Year round warm water temperatures at Chefs climb to their highest in late February. Even then a rash vest and board shorts should be fine for surfing at any time of year. Chefs water temperatures are always warm but dip to their lowest in the first week of August. You'll need a 2mm neoprene top or a shorty at dawn/dusk or if it's windy.

Actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at Chefs can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at Chefs.
