BBC Water Temperature and Wetsuit Guide

(Oman – Mainland)

Today's BBC sea temperature is 28.3 °C.

Statistics for 03 Jun (1981–2005) – mean: 28.3 °C, range: 27.0 °C to 29.2 °C

A hot and sunny day, feeling like 33 °C even after we account for wind, and very warm water temperature (28 °C) too at BBC. Surfers may need a thin summer wetsuit or at least a rash vest to block the UV.

BBC Water Temperature Graph

All of the graphs for the surf breaks presented on Surf-Forecast.com are on the same scale to enable comparison between locations around the world.

BBC water temperatures peak in the range 28 to 29°C (82 to 84°F) on around the 22nd of May and are at their coldest on about the 22nd of January, in the range 23 to 25°C (73 to 77°F). Year round warm water temperatures at BBC climb to their warmest in the second half of May. Even then a rash vest and board shorts should be fine for surfing at any time of year. BBC water temperatures are always warm but dip to their coldest in the second half of January. You'll need a 2mm neoprene top or a shorty at dawn/dusk or if it's windy.

Actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at BBC can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at BBC.
